The Charlotte 49ers (9-3) lost the final game of the series to Xavier 7-6 Sunday afternoon at Hayes Stadium, giving up five home runs along the way, but still walk away from the weekend with a series victory heading into spring break.
“We never really got in a rhythm,” head coach Loren Hibbs said. “We didn’t play as well as we have been playing for the last week or so. Give Xavier credit, they came out very very aggressive and ran some really good arms out there at us.”
Xavier jumped on the board early, trying to avoid the series sweep against the Niners, using a two-run home run to right field from Joe Gellenbeck off of Zach Flanagan to give them an early 2-0 lead.
