Baseball captures sixth-striaght in win over Xavier

The Charlotte 49ers (7-2) used a strong outing from Colton Laws and two strong innings out of the bullpen from Jonah Patten to squeeze by the Xavier Musketeers Friday night 2-1 at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium, striking out 11 Musketeers along the way.

“Today was a really good, hard-fought game,” head coach Loren Hibbs said after the game. “Xavier has a good team, Lowther was pretty darn good. We played tremendous defense and were solid all the way around. Laws and Patten were both good today. We have a lot of confidence in them.”

Brett Netzer got the scoring going in the sixth inning as he reached on a bunt-single off of Xavier’s left-handed pitcher Zac Lowther (L, 1-2) to lead off the inning.
