Baseball breezes by WVU, looks for sweep on Sunday

The Charlotte 49ers (2-0) will head into Sunday’s game against West Virginia (0-2) looking for the sweep, after defeating the Mountaineers 13-2 Saturday night in front of another sold-out crowd at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium, backed by homeruns from T.J. Nichting, Logan Sherer and Jackson Mims.

Junior Josh Maciejewski (W, 1-0) toed the rubber for the 49ers and head coach Loren Hibbs, throwing 5.2 innings and working around five walks to only give up one run on three hits.

“We played really well and made a couple of key defensive plays early in the game,” Hibbs said.
