Zoned out: Central Michigan flummoxed by Eastern Michigan defense, falls in MAC opener

YPSILANTI — Preparing for Eastern Michigan is unlike prepare for almost any other opponent on a schedule.

The 2-3 zone defense employed by Eagles sixth-year head coach Rob Murphy has caused fits for many teams, including Central Michigan whether under the direction of former head coach Ernie Zeigler or current Chippewas fifth-year head coach Keno Davis.

Typically, the results have been worse for CMU when the contest has been played in EMU’s Convocation Center and that remained the same Tuesday night when the Mid-American Conference season opened in Ypsilanti.

With a porous shooting effort in the first half and turnovers in the second half dictating the game flow, Central Michigan was on the losing end of an 85-63 decision against the zoned-in Eagles.
