MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan senior Luke Smith was named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Smith, who is ranked 14th nationally at 157 pounds by Amateur Wrestling News, upset 10th-ranked Brian Murphy of Michigan, 5-4, during a dual meet Friday in Ann Arbor.
Smith got a third-period takedown in scoring the come-from-behind victory, his 21st this season against five loss. He is 6-2 in dual meets. Murphy was an All-American last season. The Wolverines won the dual meet, 22-12.
The Chippewas are 5-3 in dual meets including 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference.
