W. Golf. Chippewas Set 36-Hole Mark On Opening Day

YORKTOWN, Ind. - Freshman Danielle Sawyer shot 76-78 - 154 Monday in her Central Michigan debut, leading the Chippewa golf team on the opening day of the Ball State Cardinal Classic at The Players Club.

The final round of the 16-team, 54-hole event is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Chippewas shot 315-312 - 627 and stand in 14th place, 51 shots behind Eastern Kentucky, which shot 290-290 - 580. The 312 in Monday's second round matched the best 18-hole team score in CMU program history, and the 627 36-hole score is a school record.
