MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — One of the biggest aspects of evaluating improvement of a young team is maturity.

Having won eight of its last 11 starts, it’s safe to say that the Central Michigan women’s basketball team has matured quite a bit since the beginning of the season.

That maturity was on display Wednesday, as the Chippewas held on to pull out a 53-51 Mid-American Conference win over rival Western Michigan at McGuirk Arena.

It was CMU’s third-straight win since it squandered a 10-point fourth-quarter lead in falling at Ohio, 86-84, in overtime two weeks ago.
