When Austin Stewart played his final game for the Central Michigan men’s basketball team in March, most people probably assumed his college athletic career was over.
Stewart had different plans.
The 6-foot-6 and 215-pound senior turned his attention to the gridiron and trying out for the CMU football team, where he spent the last month as a wide receiver during the 15 spring practice sessions.
On Saturday at the annual spring game, Stewart drew one of the largest cheers of the afternoon as he caught a 9-yard pass from Jake Johnson for a first down. It would set up a touchdown as Jahray Hayes ran in a 25-yarder on the very next play.
