AKRON, Ohio – The Central Michigan University softball team was upset in its opening-round game at the Mid-American Conference Tournament Wednesday as it fell to Western Michigan 3-1 from Firestone Stadium.
The Chippewas (36-14), who were seeded No. 1 in the tournament after winning the MAC regular-season title last week, will now play Ball State (30-27) at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in an elimination game.
The eighth-seeded Broncos (24-27) broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth inning as Kelsea Cichocki reached on an error before Abby Stoner belted a two-run homer, her ninth of the season, off of Rachael Knapp.
