Senior Austin Severn wrestles Northern Illinois’ Shawn Scott in the Chippewas match against Northern Illinois on Jan. 29 in McGuirk Arena.

After day one of the 2017 NCAA Wrestling National Championships, Central Michigan sits in ninth place out of the 69 team field.

Seven wrestlers are left — all competing in the consolation bracket. Junior Brent Fleetwood and Senior Austin Severn each went 0-2 on the day, resulting in elimination.

Fleetwood dropped his matches at 125 pounds to top seeded Thomas Gilman of Iowa and Jake Gromacki of Clarion. Severn (197) dropped his matches to Steban Cervantes of Navy and to Jeric Kausnic of American, with the loss to Kausnic coming by pin.
