Ten turnovers, four lead changes, three overtimes and the Central Michigan football team was able to hold off a Rhode Island team with upset aspirations.
The Chippewas defeated FCS-opponent Rhode Island 30-27 Thursday night in the season opener at Kelly/Shorts Stadium after a four-yard touchdown run from senior Devon Spalding in triple overtime.
The Rams had a chance to win the game in double overtime, but failed to convert on a 33-yard field goal.
