MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan softball team ranked second in the Mid-American Conference in 2016 with a .282 batting average.
The Chippewas were 10th in the league in runs scored.
“Scoring runs is all that matters,” veteran coach Margaret Jonker said in her typical pointed fashion on the eve of her 37th season in charge of the program. “We need people to come through when it counts.”
The Chippewas open the season with a three-day trip to College Station, Texas, where they will play Texas A&M and Lamar (twice each) and Ohio State.
