MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Pitching is the backbone of any baseball team at any level.

If that axiom holds, then there is legitimate reason for high hopes for Central Michigan in 2018.

The Chippewas open the season with a trip to Edinburg, Texas, this weekend. They will play two games each against Stephen F. Austin and Texas Rio Grande Valley at UTRGV’s Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Steve Jaksa enters his 16th season in charge of the program and returns six position-player starters and most of the top-line pitching from a team that won the Mid-American Conference West Division last season, CMU’s second such title in three years.
