EAST LANSING, Mich. – Justin Oliver won the 149-pound weight class and 15 Central Michigan wrestlers placed on Sunday at the Michigan State Open at the Spartans’ Jenison Field House.
Oliver, a junior who is ranked seventh nationally by WIN Magazine, went 4-0 on the day and defeated Ryan Deakin of Northwestern, 4-3, in the title match. Deakin is ranked 12th.
No team scores were kept. The Chippewas, who are ranked 17th, are scheduled to wrestle on Saturday at the Eastern Michigan Open.
Nine other Chippewas posted top-five finishes in the open division of their respective weight classes, while five more CMU wrestlers placed in the Freshman/Sophomore Division.
