When Keno Davis inherited a barebones Central Michigan roster in 2012, he spoke about playing high-tempo basketball and pointed to wanting to score 90 points with regularity.
But in assembling a roster on the fly that would go on to win a Mid-American Conference regular season championship in 2014-15 and another MAC West Division title last year, Davis oversaw a team that never ranked higher than 150th in adjusted tempo.
The reasoning largely points to personnel as former standout point guard Chris Fowler, one of the greatest players in Chippewas history, was not necessarily best-suited as a run-and-gun showrunner.
