MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – True, Central Michigan won the regular-season Mid-American Conference gymnastics title.
But nobody is going to hand the Chippewas the first-place trophy simply for showing up at the MAC Championships on Saturday (2 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena.
“We can’t just be ourselves,” longtime CMU coach Jerry Reighard said. “This is the real deal, this is conference play. We have to strive to win. With that being said, striving to win means putting yourself in the best position mentally that you can possibly be.
“A hungry horse always runs a faster race and if you don’t have that hunger down deep inside, if you don’t have the desire necessary …”
The Chippewas beat Ball State last week to wrap up their first MAC regular-season crown since 2015.
