Chippewas split doubleheader with Broncos; offense explodes in game two

Whether it’s football, basketball or a game of checkers, the rivalry between Central Michigan and Western Michigan is always intense.

Softball is no exception.

The rivals competed on the diamond on Tuesday and split a doubleheader at Margo Jonker Stadium.

Western Michigan (13-17, 5-3 Mid-American Conference) won game one 7-2 behind seven strong innings from pitcher Allyson Kus. CMU junior pitcher Rachael Knapp pitched 3 and 1/3 innings, surrendering four runs (two earned) on five hits.

The Chippewas (15-18-1, 2-5-1 MAC) came from behind in game two to win 8-4 behind sophomore center fielder Sarah Hansen’s three RBI performance.
