Chippewas overcome two-score deficit in second half, stun rival Broncos

KALAMAZOO– Central Michigan kept swinging.

Eventually, some blows found their mark. And then the big blow did.

Trailing from almost the get-go, the Chippewas rallied from a 28-14 deficit, scoring three fourth-quarter touchdown to shock archrival Western Michigan, 35-28, on a rainy Wednesday night at the Broncos’ Waldo Stadium.

Shane Morris connected with Corey Willis on a 77-yard touchdown pass play with 2:37 remaining to break a 28-28 tie as the Chippewas snapped a three-game losing streak in the series.

It was the first victory over the Broncos for third-year CMU coach John Bonamego.

CMU improved to 5-4, 3-2 Mid-American Conference.
