Former Central Michigan assistant Heather Cato has accepted the women’s soccer head coaching position at Saint Martin’s University, a Division II institution located in Lacey, Wash.
In her lone season on Peter McGahey’s staff at Central Michigan, Cato helped the Chippewas to a 15-3-3 record in 2017, which included an undefeated non-conference slate and a trip to the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals.
At CMU, Cato headed up the program’s recruiting, video coordination, scouting and scheduling efforts. On the field, she mentored the Chippewas’ goalkeepers and attacking players. Senior goalkeeper Kristen Knutson’s standout season ranked in the top 10 in CMU program history in four stat categories while sophomore forward Lexi Pelafas broke the Central Michigan single season records for goals (16) and points (35) en route to earning First Team All-MAC and NSCAA First Team All-Great Lakes Region honors.
