MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan’s Michael Brettell was named the co-Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Brettell, a junior right-hander from Fonthill, Ont., recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts and earned the victory in the Chippewas’ 5-3 season-opening win over Stephan F. Austin at the UTRGV Al Ogletree Classic.
Brettell went seven innings, allowing one run on six hits. He did not walk a batter. His earned run average stands at 1.29.
The Chippewas (2-2) open a four-game series at New Mexico on Thursday.
