John and Paulette Bonamego were introduced to each other by the Jacksonville Jaguars team mascot.
The Central Michigan head coach was in his second year of a three-year stint as an assistant coach for the Jaguars 18 years ago in Florida. He invited Paulette to Dairy Queen where he expressed his interest to, one day, return to Central Michigan University.
Paulette was hesitant. She didn't want to marry someone with such a busy schedule as a football coach, and wasn't interested in the cold weather in Mount Pleasant. But, as history would have it, Paulette became a Bonamego later that year.
