DeLAND, Fla. – The Central Michigan baseball team found itself in a 5-0 hole after one inning and could never climb out as it fell to Illinois, 9-4, in the Chippewas’ opening game at the Westin Lake Mary Stetson Invitational at Stetson’s Melching Field.

The Chipppewas (0-8) play Villanova (2-6) Saturday at 1 p.m. and the host Hatters (4-5) on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Illinois scored five runs on six hits – the big blow a three-run homer by Luke Shilling – in the first inning off CMU starter Nick Deeg.
