MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Ball State pushed across two runs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday in handing Central Michigan a 4-2 loss in the finale of a three-game Mid-American Conference baseball series at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas dropped to 8-28 overall, 3-6 MAC. Ball State, which took two of three in the series, is 23-14, 9-3. CMU plays at Notre Dame (21-12) in a non-league game on Wednesday, then entertains Toledo in a three-game set next weekend.
The Chippewas had a golden opportunity to tie the game, or win it, in the bottom of the ninth when Ryan Heeke and Jarrod Watkins led off the inning with back-to-back singles.
