MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A championship to defend, and another to chase.
The Central Michigan baseball team opens the 2016 season this weekend, and the Chippewas will get tested immediately as they play at Arkansas in a three-game series beginning on Friday. The Razorbacks earned a berth in the College World Series a year ago.
CMU is the defending MAC regular-season champion, and the Chippewas were picked to finish first in the West Division in the preseason poll.
Yet for all the success the Chippewas had in 2015, when they finished 35-22 including 20-7 in the MAC, things ended on a sour note as they finished 0-2 in the MAC Tournament.
