They lost senior Kirsten Petzold to a potential season-ending leg injury 30 minutes before the season started.
While it wasn’t exactly the start or beginning to the season that the 25th-ranked Central Michigan University gymnastics team had been hoping for that’s how the 2016 campaign began Sunday afternoon from McGuirk Arena.
What followed in the aftermath of Petzold’s unfortunate injury proved to be a mixed bag in that the Chippewas were good at times and bad at others albeit still plenty good enough to crush visiting Temple 193.425-188.850.
“It was kind of a rollercoaster ride for me,” said CMU head coach Jerry Reighard, who led his 2015 Chippewas to a 17th-place finish in the national rankings.
