A total of 200 Central Michigan University student-athletes from 15 varsity sports were honored with the presentation of their varsity letterman’s jackets before Saturday’s game against Kent State on Saturday.
Dave Heeke, director of athletics at CMU, said there is a “special meaning" behind the jackets.
“It’s a special thing when you earn your first letter award,” he said. “The jacket is about pride, history, tradition and there’s a responsibility with it. It’s a neat day to celebrate the accomplishments of all the great, young people.”
To honor the sophomores earning their jackets, a ceremony was held by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan.
