Case Western Reserve University junior Pat Shober claimed the University Athletic Association Championship in the javelin throw, to lead the Spartans during the first day of competition at the 2016 UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Washington University (Mo.) in St. Louis, Missouri.
Shober finished first in the javelin throw with a distance of 55.37 meters on his first throw of the finals, a new career-best mark. He is the first Spartan to win the javelin throw since David Kallevig in 2004, and it marked just the fourth time in the program's history that a CWRU athlete has won the men's javelin throw, along with championships in 1993 and 1994 from Mike Schaefer.
