Super Bowl a great memory, but not the foundation of Broncos' preparation for rematch

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The last time the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers faced each other the Lombardi Trophy was on the line and the evening turned into a football coronation of sorts for the Broncos’ defense.

The Broncos sacked Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who was the league’s MVP in 2015, six times in Super Bowl 50. They pressured him on 21 dropbacks and the Broncos forced four fumbles in the game, recovering three of those -- two by Newton.

And as Thursday night’s Super Bowl rematch approaches, Broncos linebacker Von Miller, for one, believes the an honest look at the Super Bowl was necessary to prepare for the regular-season opener.
