Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton plans to undergo surgery on the left foot injury that has already led to him being ruled out for the season, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Newton aggravated the Lisfranc injury, originally sustained in the third preseason game, in a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He visited with foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson last month, with a decision at that time being for no surgery. Newton was placed on injured reserve four days later.
NFL Network first reported Wednesday that Newton planned to have surgery.
