Panthers release Josey Jewell after continued concussion symptoms

The Carolina Panthers have announced the release of veteran linebacker and second-year Panther Josey Jewell. Jewell has chosen to step away from football to address lingering symptoms from concussions and the team has left the door open to his return in the future.

It is unclear what symptoms were lingering or why this move coincided with the first day of veterans returning to training camp, but that is now largely a private concern of Jewell’s. The most we can do, as fans, is wish him well on his recovery.

Jewell figured heavily into the Panthers plans on defense this season and will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by second-year player Trevin Wallace, a 2024 draft pick.
