The Carolina Panthers had an obvious need at the wide receiver position after trading away Kelvin Benjamin last season. Devin Funchess continues to both develop and improve but even after selecting Curtis Samuel last year, new Panthers general manager Marty Hurney targeted a wide receiver with the team’s first pick this season.
D.J. Moore was the first wide receiver taken off the board in the NFL Draft and has an opportunity in Carolina to grow into a legitimate number one threat. Hurney also traded for a veteran in Torrey Smith, the most seasoned from a long list of receiving options for quarterback Cam Newton this year.
