Panthers defense/special teams: Third quarter report card

The Carolina Panthers defense is no longer ranked first in the NFL but they are far from a liability. Despite recent struggles against New York and New Orleans, new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks remains positive about his group’s abilities.

The unit continues to post solid numbers and given their veteran leadership, should be poised for a pivotal playoff run moving forward. Carolina currently clings to the sixth and final NFC playoff berth with four games left.

Each of those four carries significant weight for the Panthers. Beginning this week against the NFC leading Minnesota Vikings, Carolina can emerge as a serious contender and be poised as a tough out for anyone in the playoffs.
