As many expected, the Panthers received a third round compensatory selection in the NFL draft following the departure of Josh Norman last season. The Panthers will get the 98th overall selection, the second overall compensatory selection. Whats interesting about this is that the Panthers did not receive anything for Brad Nortman, who instead was factored into the equation for their third round award.
Compensatory selections are now more valuable than ever, as they can be traded when in the past teams were usually stuck with those picks. As we all know, Dave Gettleman has shown a willingness to trade up in the past to get players he wants, moving up to grab Devin Funchess, Daryl Williams, and Daryl Worley in the early rounds of the last few seasons.
