SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Kevin Greene became a household name with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he didn’t forget the Carolina Panthers during his Hall of Fame speech on Saturday night.
In 1996, the former outside linebacker became the oldest player in NFL history to lead the league in sacks with 14.5. He helped the Panthers, in only their second season, reach the Super Bowl.
Greene left Carolina for San Francisco after that season but returned for the 1998-99 seasons before retiring.
Dom Capers, Carolina’s first head coach, Greene’s coordinator with the Steelers and boss with the Green Bay Packers, fittingly presented the five-time Pro Bowl selection into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
