Former Panthers safety files lawsuit against insurance company after career-ending injury

Charlotte, N.C. — Former Carolina Panthers safety Haruki Nakamura filed a lawsuit in Mecklenburg County on Monday against Lloyd’s of London in an attempt to collect the $1 million policy he purchased from the insurance company in July of 2012.

Nakamura is seeking $3 million in damages in addition to interest and lawyer fees, according to the New York Times.

A “Medical Advisory Physician,” provided by the National Football League, said Nakamura is “totally and permanently disabled” due to post-concussion symptoms, according to the suit.

Nakamura sustained the career-ending injury during a preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug.
