Dave Gettleman: 'Contract negotiations are going on' with Pro Bowl DT Kawann Short

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Remember Luke Kuechly.

A year ago, the Carolina Panthers signed the Pro Bowl middle linebacker to a five-year, $62 million extension four days before the 2015 opener.

This is no prediction that will happen with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short, but general manager Dave Gettleman said one promising thing on Tuesday about where things stood.

“Contract negotiations are going on,’’ he said.

This came a week after coach Ron Rivera said Short was “too important of a player for us’’ not to get a long-term extension done.

All this came two and a half weeks after reports surfaced that talks were dead.
