Carolina Panthers, Ron Rivera consider defensive changes

Three defensive coordinators in three years was the result of consistency from a Carolina Panthers defense proven to attack the quarterback. Two gentlemen moved from the coordinator position to head coach recently as Sean McDermott took over the Buffalo Bills two years ago and Steve Wilks landed an opportunity with the Arizona Cardinals last season.

The latter resulted in Eric Washington being promoted to take his place but after less than stellar results, coach Ron Rivera assumed the defensive play calling for the final five games of the season. A mixed bag of results followed but the Panthers did win a game and stymied an impressive New Orleans Saints offense down the stretch.
