The deadline to exercise the fifth-year option on Kelvin Benjamin was fast approaching for the Carolina Panthers and a decision needed to be made. That was done on Tuesday as the team announced they will exercise that option on Benjamin.
The move now keeps Benjamin under contract through the 2018 season.
However, it wasn’t as straightforward as one might think. It would make sense that a team would be interested in a player who has 136 receptions, 1,949 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns through the first two seasons on the field.
Benjamin’s career has had its ups but also has had its downs.
