Carolina Panthers’ defense was solid, but couldn’t overcome turnovers

SANTA CLARA, CALIF.

The Carolina Panthers’ defense did more than enough to win Super Bowl 50.

Unfortunately, the offense was even more inept than the defense was solid in the Panthers’ 24-10 loss at Levi’s Stadium.

One of the underpinnings in a one-loss season heading into the Super Bowl was a fantastic takeaway-giveaway margin – a plus-20 in the regular season. But the Panthers gave the ball away so much Sunday – climaxing with quarterback Cam Newton’s fumble while attempting to pass with under five minutes left – that the defensive efficiency became moot.
