Cam Newton honored as a community advocate in New York City

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was honored as a community advocate on Monday night in New York City.

The award was presented by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City during a black tie gala at the Waldorf Astoria. Among those attending was NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, a member of the BBBS board.

I was told by somebody attending the event that the reigning NFL MVP nailed his acceptance speech.

.@CameronNewton gave a great, inspirational speech about the power of mentoring at our #SidewalksofNY gala tonight!
