Cam Newton has opportunity to knock off rust against porous Saints defense

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers look to start 3-0 for the second time in three seasons and third time in team history when they face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

The 2015 team started 14-0 and finished the regular season with an NFL-best 15-1 record. It advanced to Super Bowl 50 before losing to Denver 24-10.

The 1996 team started 3-0 and finished the regular season 12-4. It lost to Green Bay 30-13 in the NFC Championship Game.

So 3-0 starts have been good for Carolina.
