It’s been an interesting past week in Panthers land. The Sam Darnold honeymoon period seems like it’s already over after reports began surfacing that general manager Scott Fitterer and the team may decline Darnold’s fifth-year option.
That move could potentially open the door for the Panthers to draft a quarterback, rendering Darnold a likely one-year rental.
If Fitterer drafts Rashawn Slater, as most experts agree would be a prudent move, then the drama meter would drop significantly. It would show that Fitterer is at least somewhat committed to investing in Darnold.
