Panthers Free Agency Rumors Roundup: Carolina Looking To Add Defensive Line Depth, Eric Weddle Latest

NFL Free Agency is officially here, and the next few days will feature several Carolina Panthers rumors. The Panthers have already made several big moves and might not be done yet. With that in mind, here are a few of the more interesting rumors and news tidbits on the Panthers.

Eric Weddle to make decision on Monday
Chargers safety Weddle is perhaps the biggest free agent left on the market, and the Panthers are one of the four teams that are strongly pursuing him - and they won't have much more time to make an impression on him. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Weddle plans to make a decision on Monday.

The Cowboys, Raiders, and Steelers are all also pursuing Weddle.

Panthers looking to add defensive line depth
Carolina hasn't been very active on the free agency market, but they do plan to add some defensive line depth in the coming weeks, according to the Charlotte Observer's Joseph Person:

With the Panthers cutting Dwan Edwards and letting Kyle Love become a free agent, the current depth chart at defensive tackle features no one behind starters Kawann Short and Star Lotulelei.

Gettleman addressed the offensive line depth last week by signing former Ravens center Gino Gradkowksi, who will back up center Ryan Kalil and slide in at guard as needed. Likewise, expect the Panthers GM to bring in at least one free agent defensive tackle, in addition to almost certainly adding one from a very deep draft class at the position.

There’s still a chance Love re-signs with the Panthers after testing the market. Love, 29, tied a career-high with three sacks last season and is a serviceable rotational player.
