Panthers News: Backfield Banged Up, Mike Tolbert To Miss A Month?

In this Panthers news update, the Carolina Panthers' backfield corps might be in need of some outside help after the rash of injuries it has sustained in recent weeks.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, FB Mike Tolbert and RB Jonathan Stewart both sustained injuries in Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers:

Tolbert's injury, which is also accompanied by a bone bruise, will not require surgery. However, he could still miss more than a month. Stewart's status is likely to be more fluid, but the Panthers might be reticent to push him out on the field until he is close to 100%.

With DeAngelo Williams also hobbled by his own injuries, now could very well be the time for the Panthers to add some ground help either from the practice squad or the free-agent market. No official moves have been made as of this writing, but expect the Panthers to consider it as the week progresses.
