I’m sure I don’t need to remind anyone here of the lack of recent success for the Carolina Hurricanes. Mired in a miserable 9-year playoff drought, the team has threatened to perform on a number of occasions since losing in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009. An uncharacteristic 6-3-1 start to the season had fans contemplating what could be, before watching the Canes freefall to five consecutive losses.
Now back on track with two wins and a shootout loss over the last three games, we’re left to question yet again whether this team is capable of progressing to a playoff spot, or whether we’ll see the familiar disappointment of the team falling out of playoff contention as the season progresses.
