RALEIGH — The Carolina Hurricanes set out to do something they’ve never done before on Friday night at PNC Arena - sweep a playoff series.
Mission accomplished.
In front of a franchise-record crowd of 19,495, the Hurricanes ended the New York Islanders’ season with a convincing 5-1 win. The Canes are now winner of six consecutive hockey games and are set to play the survivor of the Columbus Blue Jackets/Boston Bruins series in the Eastern Conference Final.
The Canes needed to come out of the box amped on Friday - Andrei Svechnikov was maybe a little too amped.
