Jordan Martinook to miss six to eight weeks with core muscle injury

The Carolina Hurricanes’ recall of Julien Gauthier yesterday seemed to come out of nowhere, and unfortunately we now know the issue that prompted the team to make the call.

The Hurricanes announced Thursday that alternate captain Jordan Martinook will miss six to eight weeks with a core muscle injury. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Martinook, who will undergo surgery Friday, suffered the same injury during last year’s playoffs, missing at least one game in each series and rarely practicing to make the pain as tolerable as possible. He underwent surgery to repair that injury soon after the Hurricanes’ season finished, and seemed to be fully healed to begin this season.
