Despite the disappointing end to their remarkable playoff run, the Carolina Hurricanes enjoyed a successful season.
For the first time in a decade, they reached the playoffs and marched to the Eastern Conference Final. Along the way, they upset the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals and swept the New York Islanders.
First-year head coach Rod Brind'Amour did a fine job motivating his players to exceed expectations.
