Facing a make or break road game, at the United Center, against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 8, had the Carolina Hurricanes with their backs against the wall. They responded with a 3-2 win, behind one of Scott Darling’s better performances of the season. However, it does seem like every game is a must-win for the Canes at this point.
The three main teams in the Eastern Conference wildcard race ahead of the Canes are continuing to play well. With wins for both the Columbus Blue Jackets and Florida Panthers on March 8 too, the Canes did not gain any ground in the standings compared to those two squads.
