With a corps of defensemen averaging 21.5 years old, and a roster on paper that doesn’t impress anyone, the Canes took the dangerous and powerful Caps to overtime in a very entertaining game. Eddie Lack was solid in goal, saving 29 of 31 shots, and Jordan Staal was impressive again with his unassisted goal.
A game played as hard as this one should not have ended like this.
Near the halfway mark of the extra time Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov entered the offensive zone and fumbled the puck. The puck went off of his stick and went behind his body as his body proceeded into the offensive zone.
